Greater than Nothing offer high quality, standards based, web design services at reasonable prices. Unlike many design companies we create each sites design from scratch, so you get an entirely custom web site, to suit you needs perfectly. You will get to comment and refine the design as you want, so you’re involved in every stage of the process. To give you an idea of the type of project you might need here are some ideas:
Simple Business Websites
Sometimes it important for a business just to have an on-line presence so potential customers can find the business and get in touch. This is the simplest type of site and would normally be made up of 3-8 pages. The content of these pages would remain the same unless the client requested an update, which we would then do. The site is designed to complement the businesses existing brand (or to help create one!).
Website with a Content Management System
This type of site allows a client to update the content of the site themselves, and add further content as needed. This allows for far greater flexibility, which results in a more up to date site, full with the relevant current information. The search engines and your customers tend to want to see sites that are being kept up to date with the latest information, so this type of site is ideal.
We tend to use WordPress as our content management system of choice. There are a number of reasons for this:
- It produces very accessible, professional, standards based websites.
- It comes with a customisable, easy to use administration area. Making it easy for clients to update their sites.
- It has become a hugely popular platform so there’s no danger of it disappearing! Also this results in many useful plugins being developed, adding extra features. This helps result in very scalable designs.
E-commerce Websites
If you want to sell products on-line you’ll need an e-commerce website. This type of site allows you to add products and fulfil orders via the sites administration area. Due to the relatively low running costs of an on-line shop many businesses are looking to sell goods on-line.
There are a number of different e-commerce solutions available to you depending on your needs, and budget.
Custom Database Powered Websites
Some websites just don’t suit a pre-made solution so need to be started from scratch. We can create custom databases and build websites around them to your needs. We use the PHP programming language, and the MySQL database, both very popular scalable solutions.
Other Services
We also offer consultation in many aspects of web design, and help with specific issues. These services tend to be charged at an hourly rate. Company founder Tom Lawton also teaches web design at Kingston Maurward College in Dorchester Dorset, so feel free to get in contact about training.
